Highlander: the Series

An Eye for an Eye

Ahhhh, Annie Devlin, the quintessential red-haired Irish lass with a body for passion and a mind for revenge. This one happens to be an Immortal, which really gives her a leg up in the revolution business.

Richie and Duncan stop an assassination attempt, and Annie vows that she'll take her revenge upon Richie because, once again, she's lost a mortal lover. Turns out that Annie and Duncan have a history together, she urging him to join her rebel cause and he trying to avoid just such an entanglement. So Duncan begins to teach Richie The Way of the Sword. Duncan throws Richie around on the mat, obviously trying to work out some spiritual and philosophical quandaries within his soul. Then they do a little swordwork together, Duncan teaching Richie Annie's favorite moves and the counters to them.

Then Annie jumps out a window at the police station and kills herself, but she comes back from the dead and her minions tell her where to find Richie. She finds Duncan first, and since Duncan recently lost Tessa and Annie even more recently lost her latest lover, they make love on the dock by the lighthouse. Unconvinced that she should let bygones be, she and Richie fight, and Richie actually wins ... but he refuses to behead her. Duncan steps in as arbitrator and declares the match "over". Richie may have caused the death of her lover, but since he spared her life, they're even. A life for a life. Eye for an eye. Whatever.

Questions:

1. Duncan is really quite harsh with Richie in this episode. Is this because he is in mourning for Tessa, because he is truly concerned that Richie will be taken out by Annie, or [fill in the blank].

2. Were you relieved when Richie did behead Annie Devlin or were you sitting there, waiting for a really cool Quickening?

3. Seacouver seems a hotbed for attempted assassinations. Duncan manages to thwart them all. In the Eyes of the Law, does that make him a member of a Secret Organization, a Usual Suspect, or a Suspicious Character?

4. Duncan chose to live above a dojo in rather Spartan surroundings after the death of Tessa, after years of sharing sumptuous quarters with her. Why such a massive change? And why, in particular, a dojo?

5. Are you ready for The Zone?
