"Does Rome Still Rule The World?" Spoken in a chichi accent by a woman lying in a coffin, who after 2000 years is fresh as a daisy, nekkid as a jaybird, and wearing absolutely perfect eyeliner. Immortal Nefertiri, Cleopatra's handmaiden, drank poison when her mistress died, and took a long long nap in a sarcophagus.
None the worse for wear when Duncan opens the sarcophagus, she eagerly begins to learn her new world with Duncan as her teacher. They shop. She tries to blow out a lightbulb. They become lovers. She looks in trash cans.
They go to a museum with an Egyptian exhibit, where she meets up with museum curator and former lover, former Roman, Marcus Constantine.
A subplot involves a renegade Watcher who works for Marcus and tries to kill Nefertiri, who kills him instead. Nefertiri insists that Marcus pretty much ruined her life, being Roman and all, so Marcus invites her and Duncan to dinner with his new wife Angela.
Nefertiri murders Angela. Duncan gets pissed and hollers at her and kicks her off the barge. Duncan is commiserating with Marcus over the death of Angela when Nefertiri shows up to challenge Marcus, who won't fight her. To keep her from simply executing Marcus, Duncan fights her and wins. There are birds and a flurry of what must have been intended to look like feathers flying, and a Quickening.
Questions:
1. Is Revlon missing a big bet by not buying up the formula for Nefertiri's eyeliner, calling it Nefertiri's Secret and marketing it bigtime? Of course, one application lasts 2000 years, but it's not waterproof.
2. Wasn't it just a real hoot when Nefertiri tried to blow out that lightbulb?
3. In reply to Nefertiri's question about whether women in the modern world use sex to get what they want, Duncan said something on the order of "hardly ever". Was he trying to promote political correctness or do you think he was speaking what he actually thought? Do you suppose he changed his mind in any respect after beheading Nefertiri?
4. Am I right in thinking this episode provided some of the best eye candy ever provided to the male viewers of Highlander: the Series?
5. No one seemed to take an interest in Angela's death. No cops around. Just buried her and that's the end of it. Not unusual for Highlander where corpses litter the countryside like firewood. I just take notice. Did you notice?
6. Cleopatra's barge ... Duncan's barge ... Nefertiri rode them both. Coincidence?
