Ah, Luther ...
Immortal Rebecca and her idiot husband John are walking around when they are accosted by Luther, a former student of Rebecca. Rebecca lays down her sword in order to save John, and Luther beheads her and takes her crystal. Amanda, another former student of Rebecca, pays a visit to Duncan to tell him of Rebecca's death, and to inform him of her plan to seek vengeance. Duncan met Rebecca and Amanda in 1635, when Amanda tried to rob him, and they all became friends.
Luther is trying to re-assemble the crystal that Rebecca split among her students through the years, believing that it will give him great power, and probably assure his success in The Game.
Duncan decides that he is the better person to take on Luther. Amanda decides that it's her battle, so she sneaks off to fight him. Luther is about to behead Amanda when Duncan shows up with the piece of crystal that Amanda was supposedly carrying. He offers the crystal to Luther, should Luther succeed in beheading him. They fight. As Luther is about to be beheaded, he boasts that Duncan will never locate the rest of the crystal. Duncan says that was never his goal, and off with Luther's head. Quickening.
Questions:
1. Luther has some interesting methods of feeling alive. Apparently a devotee of self-flagellation, he smacks himself around with a whip. Discuss.
2. Rebecca, apparently, owned the entire crystal at one time. Why would she break it up?
3. Duncan looked pretty cool in the flashback, waiting for Rebecca and Amanda to pass by after Amanda robbed him. In fact, he seemed to have a handle on the whole situation. How do you suppose he and Amanda got rid of Rebecca? Or did they?
4. Amanda is indignant when she finds that Duncan has no intention of laying down his sword in order to *save* her from Luther. Is she really that freakin' stupid? Why would Luther not take Duncan's head, then hers? If Luther had already taken Amanda's head by the time Duncan arrived, would Duncan have retaliated by taking Luther's head?
