What would happen if a Watcher happened to have a video camera in hand as one Immortal beheaded another, then went thru a Quickening? Duncan was kind of pissed off when he thought that was the case, but after a night of observation, Joe disavowed any knowledge of the guy with the video camera. Turns out the fellow, non-Watcher lawyer Robert Waverly, just happened on the battle between Duncan and Peter Matlin and taped the whole thing.
Then he decided to blackmail Duncan. Duncan's part of the blackmail was to kill Matlin's wife, a lady of some means who didn't appreciate Waverly's playing around with other women. Mac doesn't go for the deal. Waverly makes the mistake of thinking he can take on Lyman Kurlow, who is now hunting Mac for vengeance on Matlin. Kurlow, being a mean old nasty evil Immortal, kills Waverly after Waverly boasts of his plans.Which leaves Waverly's wife Barbara in possession of the incriminating video tape.
Kurlow takes possession of Barbara and awaits the arrival of Duncan MacLeod, who arrives. They battle through an absolutely amazing house and Duncan takes Kurlow's head and possession of the tape. Poolside Quickening. Barbara makes it plain that Duncan is safe from incrimination. Duncan wipes the tape.
Questions:
1. Robert Waverly doesn't seem to be the smartest fellow in the world. Videotaping himself and his lover, videotaping an Immortal battle on the same tape, leaving the tape where his wife could find it, trying to blackmail one Immortal and boasting of his plans to another. I'd have to place him in the Better Off Dead category. Is that too harsh? Did Kurlow do the world a favor by eliminating Waverly?
2. Joe and Duncan explore the Watcher/Watched relationship, during which time they are both watching for a non-Immortal. This is not ironic, is it? 3. One really has to like the style of that Immortal Kurlow. One hopes that someday the actor who portrays him [Anthony De Longis] will show up in another role on Highlander: the Series. Oh! He does! In one of the most memorable episodes of HL:tS! Evil really shouldn't look that good. Or should it?
4. Which looks better in this episode? Duncan's hair? Duncan's pants? Or that marvelous house?
