Highlander: the Series

Reunion

Immortal Terence Kincaid has a bone to pick with MacLeod. Might be a bone from a rat he had to eat when Mac was the driving force behind Kincaid's being marooned on an island with no available food or water. And by the way, just to make it a day worth writing about in the old chronicles, Kenny's back in town.

Kenny runs into Dr Anne in the emergency ward, injured but in no danger except from Kincaid, who is on his trail. Anne recognizes the signs of Immortality and hides Kenny in the hospital chapel until Duncan can arrive. Duncan takes Kenny home, where Amanda is waiting. SURPRISE! Amanda was Kenny's teacher after his first death in 1182, and they're just overjoyed to be reunited after all this time. Duncan is less than thrilled with their new nuclear family unit, but he puts up with it because Amanda wants it so bad.

Kenny still hates Duncan, of course, and now regards Duncan as a rival for Amanda's affections. Kenny cuts a deal with Kincaid, in which Kincaid gets Mac's head and Kenny gets Amanda. Kenny calls Duncan and begs for help.

Duncan and Amanda arrive at the dock, ready to lend assistance to the moppet. Kincaid challenges Mac and Kenny handcuffs Amanda to a stationary object so she can't interfere. Against all the odds and a bit of trickery with live steam, Duncan beheads Kincaid. He's still recovering from the Quickening and a little bit blind when Kenny comes around, sword in hand, to make an end to Duncan. Kenny is just about to swing that sword when Amanda steps up and threatens him. If he kills Duncan, she'll kill Kenny. He doesn't believe it, because after all she's his mother and Duncan is only her lover. But he runs away and saves his miserable little blond head.

Anne and Amanda make friends. Duncan looks smug.

Questions:

1. If Duncan took Kincaid's head and Amanda took Kenny's head, wouldn't that have made for a more symmetrical episode? Wouldn't we have liked to have seen that episode? Could we sell tickets? T-shirts? Wouldn't we have given Kenny a monogrammed bowling ball bag to tote his head around in?

2. Are we supposing that Kenny wanted Amanda to make a man out of him?

3. Given Amanda's success at raising Kenny, are we now wondering what kind of Immortal her student Michelle Webster turned out to be? Would we turn our back on her? Would Kenny seek her out to make a man out of him? Would she hesitate to do that?

4. Amanda looked pretty good with a yard of hair flowing down her back, but she looked ever-so-much freer with it cut short. Is it at all possible that Duncan MacLeod took a fashion tip from her when he whacked off the ponytail?

5. Kincaid was probably an all-right sort o' fellow when there was plenty of food around and the winds were blowing in the correct direction. What kind of a captain did Duncan make after the mutiny?
