Amanda feels stood-up at Joe's Bar where she's supposed to be meeting Mac, so she accosts Melissa, a girl who has just stolen the car keys from a gentleman. She takes the girl under her wing, so to speak, and shows her what it's like to break into a fancy department store. In the meantime, Mac is being accosted by thugs in the employ of Colonel Simon Killian, who is holding a grudge from 1918 when Mac testified that Killian had sent men into battle after the war was declared over. Killian was sentenced to death, but Mac made sure that Killian went to an insane asylum instead.
Mac escapes the thugs, and shows up at the dojo, weary and tattered and looking so magnificent that you just want to bite your fist and yell YEAH! (ahem) Melissa pronounces him "awesome" and Amanda proves for all time what an unappreciative wench she is by telling him to get cleaned up. (Editorial comment: I don't know how he could possibly clean up any better than he was looking with that sweater hanging in tatters over that perfect physique with his hair all loose and tangled over his shoulders.)
Melissa so admires Amanda that she cuts her hair off and dyes it to match Amanda's and they look so much alike that Colonel Killian mistakes her for Amanda and kidnaps her in order to subject her to Spider Attack, which renders her very sick, indeed.
Colonel Killian also has Duncan kidnapped again and locks him into a cell where he'll never ever be discovered, and promises to come back after him in 70 years. Duncan takes this news with admirable restraint and begins to dig his way out of the cell with a can opener, while singing a happy tune.
Amanda goes to Joe and asks him where Duncan has gone off to, and Joe helps her rescue Duncan, which Duncan takes with something less than perfect grace. Mac takes the time to fight Killian and a Quickening ensues, in which Mac goes through some sort of military thingie which is disturbing to watch.
Melissa is still very sick and Amanda is so distraught at having been a part of getting her in trouble that she abandons Mac after making sure that he and Joe are at least on speaking terms.
Questions:
1. If Killian had actually kidnapped Amanda instead of Melissa, Spider Attack wouldn't have worked. Is it possible that the Attack Spiders were trained to gnaw off the head of an Immortal upon command? Probably not, huh? He just didn't know Amanda was Immortal, did he? Anyone here want to go for the extra scene that shows the spiders gnawing Amanda's head off? That would be wrong, and he didn't have Amanda anyways. He had Melissa and the spiders did quite a number on her, which did no one any good. Do you suppose Richie would have dated her eventually?
2. If Joe had absolutely refused to help Amanda find Mac, would she have set up housekeeping in the dojo and kept a light in the window until he returned?
3. What was the attraction between Amanda and Melissa? It seemed rather unsavory to me, as if Amanda were sapping the youth out of Melissa in return for showing her some cheap thrills. Amanda took Melissa to the dojo, where in the presence of Duncan MacLeod, Melissa did the usual thing which women do in the presence of Duncan MacLeod, which is a core meltdown. Amanda reacted with jealousy. Did she have reason?
4. Now is your chance to react verbally to the sight of Duncan MacLeod in that shredded sweater.
5. How long would it have taken Duncan to dig his way out of that cell with his can opener? Would he have quit singing at some point?
