Highlander: the Series

Reluctant Heroes

This one is complex, with twistings and turnings, a certain amount of angst, a bit of treachery, some very naughty behavior on the part of a Federal employee, and a fight in a meat locker amidst the beef carcasses, who utter nary a moo.

Mac and Richie are walking around, minding their own business, when shots ring out. David Markum, the grocer standing in front of his store, seems to have escaped, sigh of relief, but his wife was hit and she dies. The cops figure out that Richie and Duncan know who done it. Markum knows that Richie and Duncan know who done it, but Duncan just don't want to get involved with official-type repercussions. Turns out the murderer was an old acquaintance of Mac's, Paul Kinman who killed a friend of his back in 1712, but Mac had promised Queen Anne he wouldn't take revenge. Since Queen Anne is finally dead, Mac can now go after Kinman and exact some retribution. When Mac wouldn't fight Kinman in 1712, Kinman called him a coward. When Mac wouldn't testify against Kinman, Markum called him a coward. Duncan decides to testify.

Now's where it gets complex. Kaayla Brooks, an FBI agent on the case, makes noises, makes a scene, and ends up shooting her partner, because Kinman is actually her lover!

Kinman makes an escape after killing Kaayla while kissing her. He also kills the guy who hired him to kill Markum. Mac figures it all out and confronts Markum who admits the bad guys were trying to take over his store and that's why he was the target for a hit. So Mac chases down Kinman and whacks him.

Questions:

1. Another royal female gets all bossy on Mac and keeps him from whacking yet another guy who really needed whacking. Is this why he no longer hangs out with the Royal Family?

2. I once interviewed for a job in a prison, and was told that female employees are prone to falling in love with the inmates. Kaayla Brooks probably got the same kind of information and yet ... and yet ... she fell for Paul Kinman, a gun for hire. I think she could have done better. You suppose Richie would have been interested under different circumstances? Could she and Renee Delaney have formed a support group? Horny Women With Badges, perhaps?

3. Did anyone else wonder if those beef carcasses would have been sold with bullets inside them? Or is it better just not to think of the possibilities.

4. Duncan and Richie looked pretty good, working on that house together. Then comes up ole Kaayla Brooks, smirking and insinuating that they knew more than they were willing to admit. She fell for Paul Kinman and not Duncan MacLeod? Does this make sense?
