Highlander: the Series

The Immortal Cimoli

What's so wrong with an Immortal's going public anyways? The Immortal Cimoli made a pretty good living out of recovering from death ... for a while.

Killed in a semi-tragic accident while arguing with his mother, Danny Cimoli wakes up and figures out that he's immortal. Drawn to show business, he decides he's a natural for being the Death Defying Yadda Yadda Yadda Walla Walla Bing Bang. And so he is. Mac and and Amanda attend a performance of Cimoli's circus and there he is, getting shot, dying and reviving ... all in public. Mac doesn't like this, of course, and takes Cimoli on as a student; however, Cimoli isn't all that interested in being a student. In fact, he's like {diddly dee diddly dee diddly dee diddly dee} another student of Mac's who in 1795 was killed by Damon Case, an Immortal with a taste for the innocent blood of newly-minted Immortals. Mac had let it pass back in 1795, but a thing like that can just weigh on a fellow's mind.

Dang me, if Damon Case doesn't show up out of the woodwork to challenge Danny Cimoli. Mac tries to convince Case to let Cimoli live, but Case regards killing other Immortals as his sacred duty, and he refuses. Mac, therefore, challenges Case. Case loses, of course.

Let us eavesdrop on a little conversation between Amanda and Danny Cimoli during which Amanda tells Danny that he might have a chance of beating Case if he just had a few heads under his belt. Not knowing that Duncan has already taken up his fight with Case, Cimoli tricks Duncan into being handcuffed and then tries to take his head. Duncan, no fool, escapes from the handcuffs. Cimoli is chastened, but no smarter.

Danny goes to Las Vegas to continue his career of Immortality, until he's faced by yet another Immortal and ... whoosh ... Danny Cimoli is yet another former Immortal.

Amanda talks Duncan into going back into the circus for a while, just a trip to Russia. As he tosses a knife in her general direction, she utters something on the order of "Don't worry, darling, I'll heal."

Ba-dump-bump.

Questions.

1. The folks who produce Highlander have invented some of the most annoying characters ever put in front of a television camera. Danny Cimoli is one of them. If we subtract the obvious annoyances like Charlie DeSalvo, Dr Anne and Benny Carbassa, who else would you put on your "better beheaded" list? Or do you have a "better beheaded" list? Remember, we're not talkin' evil here. We're talkin' "annoying".

2. Does Danny Cimoli have any redeeming characteristics? At all?

3. Amanda's saying that Danny might have a chance to defeat Case if he had taken a few heads really put a bee in Danny's head. A single thought, unaccompanied by any other thoughts, can be a dangerous thing. Do Amanda and Duncan always carry handcuff keys around with them, in case of emergency? Does this hint at anything about their lives and relationships?

4. How much do you think Duncan regrets having killed Case to save Cimoli's life? Was Duncan right to kill an Immortal who had made such a career out of sucking down the Quickenings of young Immortals? Are there parallels between the case of Duncan killing Case and Richie killing Mako in Under Color of Authority?

5. Immortals seem to do a lot of fighting in public parking garages. Isn't it hard to retrieve a head after it's rolled under a parked conversion van?
