If the handsome, rich and dashing Duncan MacLeod falls madly in love with an Immortal lady; and the equally handsome and dashing Hugh Fitzcairn falls madly in love with the same lady, what is the lady to do? Why, she falls madly in love with the Immortal scoundrel who stole her fortune, and whom her two existing suitors are even now challenging in order to regain it.
Robert and Gina de Valicourt wed and live happily ever after. Well, mostly happily. The French revolution almost deprived Robert of his head, but Duncan, Fitz and Gina rescue him. And they seem to be having trouble organizing their latest centennial anniversary celebration. Gina has just had it with Robert and announces she is leaving.
At Robert's request, Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod (Patron Saint of True Love) undertakes the task of healing the rift. He enlists the assistance of Methos, who agrees to help in return for Duncan's barge.
Methos and Robert engage in a false duel, while Duncan provides Gina with a story bound to make her fear for Robert's life and transportation to the dueling site. Gina takes it all too seriously, though, and goes seriously after Methos' head after Robert is injured. Sure that the ruse has gone too far, Duncan and Robert give chase, only to find Gina at the barge, looking quite satisfied, and Methos nowhere in sight. Amid the splutterings and protests of Duncan, a familiar face appears, heartily amused at the joke.
Gina and Robert are reconciled.
Methos demands his payment for his participation, and an unbelieving Duncan gives him the keys to the barge. Duncan is not about to leave Methos with a tidy barge, however, and proceeds to shake loose excelsior out of the rare vase he is giving to Gina and Robert all over the floor.
Methos announces that he really doesn't want the barge after all, and tosses the keys back to Duncan, who drops the vase.
Questions:
1. Till Death is a Methos-Fitzcairn episode that shows the differences between the two Immortals. Compare the Romantic Fitz to the Oh-So-Dry Methos. Extra Credit: throw Duncan MacLeod of the Clan MacLeod into the comparison.
2. Is Gina the woman one would expect three mature Immortals to fall madly in love with? She accepts their devotion gently, with the sense that it is no more than she deserves. Would she and Amanda have been friends? Ceirdwyn? Rebecca?
3. Robert and Gina played some fun games to enliven their long centuries together. Can you suggest some games to occupy them in the new millennium?
4. Methos seemed unhappy that Duncan's collection of CDs was heavy on opera and lacking in Queen. In the flashback, Fitz asked Duncan to accompany him to the opera and Duncan made great fun of the very notion. In what other ways have Duncan's tastes matured?
5. This episode has to rank in the top 10 for sheer enjoyment. People who are disgusted with most HL attempts at comedy like this one. What makes this one "better"?
