Female Immortal tryout # ... oh who cares?
This one is about Immortal Katya who is trying to kill mortal fencing master Armando Baptista from a rooftop with a bow and arrow, for goodness sake. Duncan MacLeod, who has just met Baptista, senses her presence and confronts her, gets shot with her arrow, and warns Baptista. In another confrontation with MacLeod, Katya explains it all. Baptista married her adopted daughter Elena, and later killed her, but was never punished for his crime. Adding insult to injury, he is raising his and Elena's daughter Mia.
Well, that's just not right, so Mac asks Baptista to explain. He tells Mac that he found Elena and Ramon (didn't it just HAVE to be Ramon?) in bed together, and was overcome by a jealous, passionate rage and shot them. He hadda do it. He did. It was rage. A passionate rage.
So anyways, Katya challenges Armando and is about to whack him, but little Mia comes in and Katya comes to the realization that Justice for Armando ain't necessarily Justice for little Mia, 'cause Mia loves her daddy. Katya lets Armando live.
Questions:
1. I kind of enjoyed Duncan's getting shot with that arrow. Were there any other redeeming characteristics to this episode? Anyone? Anyone?
2. Did Katya have a righteous case for killing Armando or does jealous, passionate rage excuse the murder of Elena?
3. Since this was a F'Immie tryout, I'm kind of wondering what the next story for Katya would have been. TPTB must have had something in mind. A F'Immie who goes after mortals and lets them go doesn't seem to be an extraordinarily promising premise for a Highlander series. Anyone want to make a storyline up? Put some flesh on Katya's meager fictional bones? 4. Is Armando a fit father for little Mia? If Katya had killed Armando, would she have been a more fit parent for little Mia?
5. What did Armando learn from being threatened by Katya? Next time he finds his wife in bed with another man, will he automatically kill her or will he be a kinder, gentler, wiser Armando and shoot her later?
